Science and I
Science has never really had an life changing impact on my life. Throughout middle school and high school I just wanted to get the classes over with. Nothing really interested me except for those really cool facts that you can learn about the human body and the mind. But other than those quick interesting facts I didn't care for science. I don't typically think about science unless I want to find the answer to a specific question which could be a lot of thinking at times but majority of the time I can just Google the answer. Majority of where I actually learn information would be from Google because I don't typically follow any science or technology outlets. But I do find myself wondering a lot about the nature around us and how beautiful it is or how us as humans have really hurt nature. I think about what we can do to help and if that help will really do anything for the earth. I typically think about extraterrestrial life and if there are other planets that can sustain us humans then there has got to be other life somewhere right? I guess science is cool when you can find out mind-blowing stuff or invent awesome technology.
wow! This was very interesting, I like how you opened up and expressed a different view point rather than the typical "I love science." I am also someone really interested in the environment and the effects human action has on it because I agree, nature is very beautiful yet as humans we have done many harmful things and continue old habits rather than enforcing cleaner options.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your honest reflection James. I think your story of just enjoying interesting facts and finding any answer in Google is a very common one. Unfortunately, just looking up answers in Google (as powerful a tool as it is) doesn't teach you how to think critically (about any subject). You need to be able to evaluate the information you get to determine its validity. Understanding how science works and the process of argumentation (claim, evidence, reasoning) will help you in many aspects of your life, also for things like voting for the right policy (which will affect your life directly). I like that you added the part at the end about caring about the environment and about what happens to nature. I'm glad you picked ozone depletion as your final project (if you decide to change, keep it in the realm of something environmentally related, I think you'll enjoy the research).
ReplyDeleteI feel that high school and middle school were a joke and unfortunately for my grades I knew that when I was in it.
