Helping people understand science

Image
Science in todays world is most critical to being educated on many subjects. Science can be overlooked by many because of their different views on life or maybe just being unaware of what is happening in the world around us. But it is important to keep up with science because it can help a person become aware of different issues and help a person take action towards these issues. Some of the best ways to learn is by experiencing the subject through visuals or visiting a museum. When you are attending a museum, you are engulfing yourself into the time period in which the event took place. You can actually feel like you are there and the material that museums have at their disposal for you to learn is amazing. The best way to learn is to try whatever it is that you are doing and continuously practice the craft. You may fail but that is okay. Even the experts were once beginners. So with learning to get your hands dirty and to find the solution, I made a game that taught kids about th

Service Learning

Image
My service learning experience was quite enjoyable. I went to a movie called The Inconvenient Truth with Al Gore who is a huge advocate about climate change and how the world should act on it. The movie itself was every interesting because it showed the good and the bad side to the issues on climate change. The movie depicted very good visuals to display the change that climate change is making on the world and it also showed the perspective of multiple professionals and what they believe. About a week later I complete my other portion of my service learning by helping my professor and a couple others set up their booths for a convention to display some geological devices and models to help the people there to further their understanding on the topic. For this service learning I helped with the setup, moving in supplies, making crafts for the participants and learning some cool things along the way. Lastly an in class service learning experience myself and my partner had the opportunit

Representation of Data (Graphs)

Image
Majority of people or groups of people use graphs to portray their data that they have calculated. These graphs can be similar or different in a lot of way. With graphs, a person can tell if the display is reliable data or not. There are specific details that one can find to ensure that the graph has data that is correct. Image Source https://www.e-education.psu.edu/rocco/node/2034 This is an example (Image 1) of a good graph because it shows what it is calculating and shows a calculation for every year. It tells the viewers what the X and Y are standing for and it is a very easy graph to read. Looking at the graph above it is hard to understand what they are calculating and what its purpose is. The visual for this graph is so unappealing because it doesn't tell you what it is computing. It is hard to tell what level each to the "Halons"

Science and I

Science has never really had an life changing impact on my life. Throughout middle school and high school I just wanted to get the classes over with. Nothing really interested me except for those really cool facts that you can learn about the human body and the mind. But other than those quick interesting facts I didn't care for science. I don't typically think about science unless I want to find the answer to a specific question which could be a lot of thinking at times but majority of the time I can just Google the answer. Majority of where I actually learn information would be from Google because I don't typically follow any science or technology outlets. But I do find myself wondering a lot about the nature around us and how beautiful it is or how us as humans have really hurt nature. I think about what we can do to help and if that help will really do anything for the earth. I typically think about extraterrestrial life and if there are other planets that can sustain u
